A QUICK-ISH HISTORY OF
OUR STORY
In 2017 our bricks and mortar store was born. In 2018 we were honoured to win the Irv Kipness Award for Excellence in Retailing. Fast forward to 2020 and we expanded virtually, allowing customers to purchase our impressive selection of wine, spirits and beer online as well as in-store.
We focus on providing excellent customer service and a fantastic selection. We love locally made products and try to stock as many Calgary-made beers, ciders, coolers and spirits as possible. Nothing is put on the shelf unless it passes a taste test. We stand behind our products. If your newly purchased bottle wasn’t a hit (like there’s really something wrong with it) then don’t be shy. Bring it back at least ¾ full and we’ll get something else for you to try.
You might have noticed that our name is strikingly similar to the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival? Yup, that’s no coincidence. Our owner, Michael MacDougall, started the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival way back in 1998 and grew it to be the biggest wine, food, spirits and beer event in Calgary and Edmonton. Our company also runs Winefest in both cities. It was always a dream of Michael’s to own a liquor store – and let’s be honest, we’ve all spent way too much time taste-testing products not to share all the knowledge with you.

The Team
We are a friendly, humble, curious and helpful bunch of people who are punch-drunk crazy about wine, spirits and beer. We’ve traveled the world tasting all kinds of alcohol and have taken a few hundred glasses…we mean classes…so we could stock the best selection for you. We’re committed to giving top notch service and top shelf products at every price point. While we all have our own little quirks, we have two things in common: we know our stuff and absolutely love what we do!

Michael is the owner of Rocky Mountain Wine Spirits Beer. If he’s not chatting with customers, you might find him stocking shelves or carrying out cases of wine to a shopper’s vehicle…mostly because he’ll find any excuse to avoid his computer. Michael likes wine, port, blue cheese and sports of just about any kind.

Sarra is a world-wine traveller who visits a new country every year to explore the local drink scene for “professional development”. Combined with her completed WSET 3 education and years in the industry, you’d definitely want Sarra on your wine-trivia team.

Sean “Scoop” Cooper has tried over 3000 different brews, earning him the title of resident beer guy. He makes sure our beer fridge is always stocked with the latest and greatest in craft beers and domestics, and can make all your beer dreams come true. He’s basically beer Santa.

Kim Davies
Kim will never get Bordeaux of wine. This avid golfer will drink anything that’s red, and if he was stranded on a desert island, Pinot Noir would be his must-have item. Along with WSET 2, Kim also has his Canadian Wine Scholar, and his French Wine Professional Designation.
