Intro

Our Whisky 201 tasting is designed to be the sequel to our Whisky 101 tasting. While it isn’t necessary to attend 101 to join us for 201, we will be expanding on some relevant points covered including whisky making process, various whisky styles, their origin and how casks effect flavour profiles.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Don’t let the 2 in the 201 intimidate you. While the next level 201 will be more informative, our goal is to keep the tasting educational, but also fun and entertaining. We hope those who join us gain a better understanding of what they like, or dislike in whisky, and have a clearer understanding of where the whisky industry is going in our ever evolving market.

Your tasting kit
Your tasting kit will include 30ml (1 oz) samples of the following seven whiskies:

Note: participants must be of legal drinking age.

Hosts: Robert White

Robert has worked in the adult-beverage industry for over 30 years on both the wholesale and retail sides of the business. He was inducted into the Keepers of the Quaich in 2008. This is a society that requires a significant and long term contribution to the success of Scottish Whisky and the Scotch Whisky industry. Not to be confused with Companions of the Quaich, which is a great whisky club for which there are chapters all over the world, that all can join . The Keepers of the Quaich only invite approximately 50 people to join each year. Robert is one of only about  4000 world-wide members, and one of few Canadians to receive the honour. As of today, there are only about 60 Keepers of the Quaich in Canada.  Fun fact: Robert was gifted a square metre of land in the northern Hebridean Islands of Scotland. This technically makes Robert a “Laird” in Scotland, and his wife a “Lady”. He’s never actually been to see his little chunk of land, but believes if he was to stand in it, he would likely encroach on his neighbour!

BYO beer, water and nibbles

We suggest having some distilled water or a beer on hand for cleansing your palate. This tasting does not include food, nor does it require it. However, if you wish to have some nibbles to enjoy with the tasting, we suggest mild bites such as a baguette, crackers, shortbreads, and mild cheeses. Strong flavours and spicy foods should be avoided.
